Ticha first studied art education from 1958 to 1962 and worked as a teacher before enrolling at the Berlin-Weißensee Academy of Art in 1965. Since then, he has worked as a freelance painter and illustrator. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he moved to West Germany.
