G. studied 1878-84 at the Karlsruhe academy under C. Hoff, 1886-90 he studied again under W. Lindenschmit at the Munich academy where he became professor in 1911. Since 1894 he mainly painted ducks and geese, his paintings are among the best achievements in this genre. Mus.: Berlin (Nat.-Gal.), München (Neue Pinakothek), Freiburg/Br., Glasgow, Nürnberg u.a.
