Watercolour. 36 x 52 cm. Matted and framed under glass. Lower right signed Gilles. - German landscape and figure painter. G. studied at the Kassel Academy, as a student of W. Klemm at the Weimar Academy, and then at the Weimar Bauhaus under L. Feininger. He undertook study trips to France and Italy, where he lived for several years on Ischia, whose landscape became central to his work. G. exhibited several times at Documenta and the Venice Biennale.
