Magnificent Mantel Clock 'Four Seasons'

Meissen. Designed around 1860/70, made soon after. Porcelain, painted in color. H. 43 x 23 x 15.5 cm. Crossed swords mark, model number 399.x. Tiny chipping on the petals, slightly professionally restored, key for the clockwork missing. Curved body on four volute feet with rich sculptural floral decoration, Watteau scenes and scattered flowers, four putti as allegories of the four seasons with corresponding attributes, and at the end a crowning vase with a bouquet of flowers. Clock: gold-plated dial with blue enameled Roman numerals, clockwork with pendulum and striking bell - German sculptor and modeller, educated at the Dresden Art Academy, 1849-1886 chief designer at the Meissen manufactory, one of the most productive modellers of historism.
