1908. Bronze, black patinated. Figure: H. 51,5 cm, square marble base: H. 11 cm. Signed and date3d Obst 1908, foundry mark Fonderie Nationale des Bronzes Ancienne Firme J. Petermann BRUXELLES. Visible casting seam on the right ankle. Flute-playing nude of a young man in classical contrapposto - German sculptor, trained at the Städelschule in Frankfurt and the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts, worked as Constantin Meunier's personal assistant from 1901 and is considered his only pupil. In 1910/11, he worked in Berlin and Florence. During the Nazi regime, he managed to emigrate to Uruguay before the outbreak of World War II. His extensive oeuvre, which includes numerous small and large sculptures as well as architectural sculptures, has yet to receive comprehensive recognition.

Vita:
