Around 2000. Bronze, black-green patinated. H. 38,5 x 30 x 7 cm. Monogrammed BA, numbered copy 2/6. The seated woman is part of Altenstein's series of works entitled ‘Auf schmalem Grat’ (On a Fine Line), which includes depictions such as Penelope (1999), Venezianerin (Venetian Woman, 2003), and Sitzende (Seated Woman, 2004). In this and other series of works, the artist has been developing the formal rigor and multi-layered content of his sculptural ideas since 2000 - German sculptor, studied sculpture in Stuttgart and then was an assistant to Prof. Jürgen Weber in Braunschweig, from 1975-2009 he taught sculpture at the HfK Bremen and has had a studio in Worpswede since 1994. He created numerous works for public spaces, including the Paradise Fountain in Moorweidenstraße in Hamburg. Alongside Waldemar Otto, Altenstein left his mark on figurative sculpture and was one of the few remaining figurative teachers in Germany.

Vita:

German sculptor, studied sculpture in Stuttgart and then was an assistant to Prof. Jürgen Weber in Braunschweig, from 1975-2009 he taught sculpture at the HfK Bremen and has had a studio in Worpswede since 1994.
