S. worked among others on commission of emperor Wilhelm II, who was one of the greatest admirers of the artist and whom Stöwer accompanied on several cruises. S.'s. depiction of the sinking of the Titanic is still being reproduced. In 1907 he was made professor. Lit.: Thieme-Becker a. others.
