1922. Bronze, black patinated. Deer: H. 18 x 15 x 4,5 cm, overall height with stone base: 25 cm. Monogrammed FvG, dated 1922, foundry mark BRANDSTETTER MÜNCHEN. Stone base minimal chipped. Slightly abstract representation of a grazing deer with excellently preserved black patina. Graevenitz created the first version of the deer in 1921, followed by others in various sizes. - Provenance: On the underside, old adhesive label from the Franz Leuwer book and art store, Bremen; private collection, Lower Saxony - German sculptor and painter, 1919-20 studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, guiding impressions by the Starnberg sculptor Gustaf Britsch, from 1921 Graevenitz worked as a freelance sculptor at Solitude near Stuttgart, in 1937 he became Director of the Academy of Arts in Stuttgart.
