H. was trained as a steel engravor and studied at the Freie Kunsthochschule Stuttgart. He participated at the ocumenta III, 4. documenta and the documenta 6 in Kassel and won the art price of the Biennale Sao Paolo in 1969. H. was a guest lectureur from 1964 to 1965 at the Hochschule für Bildende Künst in Hamburg as well as from 1984 to 1985 at the Hochschule für Bildende Künst in Berlin.
