Studied in Frankfurt am Main from 1908 on at the Kunstgewerbeschule and the Städelschen Kunstinstitut. Educational journay to Italy in 1924 and to Paris in 1930 where he befriended Braque, Léger and Dufy. Declared a degenerate artist he emigrated to Salzburg in 1933. 1948 to 1963 of the master class for painting at the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna.
