Marinemaler über vier Epochen, 2002, p. 119. - German marine painter. B. studied at the Munich Academy under C. von Marr. He undertook study trips to England and the U.S., so he stayed several times in the fishing village of Polperro in Cornwall until the outbreak of the First World War. He was the only German marine painter who was able to travel on a submarine during the First World War. Good relations with the top echelons of the navy and air force ensured him excellent commissions time and again, but he also participated in the decoration of the German Museum in Munich.
