J. studied at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts and the Central Acadmy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1991. She was subsequently awarded a scholarship by the French government for the Ecole d'Art d'Aix en Provence. She has won numerous prizes throughout her career, amongst them the Prix International d'Art de Contemporain de Monte Carlo. A core tenet of her atmospheric works are depictions of elegant ladies in settings that recall byone eras of Chinese history.
