K is known for his drawings, as well as for his theatre and opera productions. His works are shaped by politics, literature, history and science, and are oftentimes influenced by post-Apartheid socio-political conditions in South Africa. K. has received a wide variety of international accolades. He was awarded honorary doctorates by Yale and the University of London amongst others and was made an Honorary Academician at the Royal Academy in London in 2015. In 2022 he received the Honour of the Order of the Star of Italy, in 2017 he won the Princesa de Asturias Award for the Arts and in 2010 he was recipient of the Kyoto Prize. K.'s opera productions have been performed at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the La Scala in Milan, as well as the Sydney Opera house to name but a few.
