1899. Oil/artist's board. 35 x 50 cm. Lo. le. sign. and dat. L. Ury 1899. Min. pigment losses. We thank Sibylle Groß, Berlin, for kindly confirming the authenticity. She will include the painting in the catalog raisonné currently being prepared. - Expertise: Sibylle Groß, Berlin, 06.04.2023 - Provenance: From the estate of the Alsatian paper manufacturer Peter Temming, who moved his paper mill to Glückstadt in 1911. Family-owned for at least 100 years. - Landscape and figure painter, distinguished in depicting Berlin urban life in a colourful impressionism. U. studied at the Düsseldorf academy under J. J. H. Müller and in Brussels under J. F. Portaels, who recommended him to L. Bonnat. He went to Paris to continue his studies under J. Lefèbvre. In 1887 he settled in Berlin where he established connections with W. Uhde and M. Liebermann. The Michael Beer prize awarded him in 1890 allowed him to go to Italy.
