Around 1900. Black patinated bronze, green-black spreckled, stepped marble base. Bronze: H. 36 cm, plinth: H. 2,5 cm, diam. 17,5 cm. Signed on the bronze plinth: RUDOLF MARCUSE, foundry stamp: Aktien-Gesellschaft: Gladenbeck. Berlin, Friedrichshagen. Detailed moulded bronze of the discus thrower with finely chiselled hair and beautiful black, high-gloss patina. - Berlin sculptor, studied at the Berlin Art Academy under Ernst Herter, created small sculptures in Art Nouveau and Art Déco style mainly in bronze and porcelain (designs for KPM and Rosenthal) and also the monumentes of Moses Mendelsohn (Berlin) and Carl Hagenbeck (Stellingen). 1936 the artist emigrated to England and lived in London until his death.
