Oil/canvas. 32,5 x 51 cm. Lo. le. sign. Jos. Oppenheimer. Few inconspicuous rest, relined to the margins. - Portrait, landscape and still life painter. O. studied at the Munich Academy under F. Fehr, G. von Hackl and P. Hoecker. He traveled to Italy and Greece and exhibited at the Berlin Secession in 1899. In 1902 he moved to London and quickly became a portrait painter in great demand. He was able to build on this success when he returned to Berlin in 1908. O. recognized early on the threat posed by the National Socialists and returned to London as early as 1933; in 1949 he emigrated to Canada. Mus.: London (Nat. Portr. Gall.), Mannheim.
