Europe, possibly Spain. Late 12th cent./early 13th cent. Standing figure of a saint with book, the r. hand with further attribute missing. The robe with girdle falls in vertical folds, she wears a head veil under a conspicuously large crown, which was once provided with crown spikes. Figures with similarly high crowns are found mainly on the Iberian Peninsula. Accompanied by a modern base Southern. Walnut, flattened back, partially covered with older canvas, later polychrome painting and incarnate parts. H. 80 cm. Damage due to age, defects. -
