Leickert f, min. rest., relined. - Provenance: Acquired in the 1960s in an auction house in Dortmund, thence property of the same family. - L. was one of the main masters of romantic landscape painting in the Dutch tradition. He was a pupil of A. Schelfhout, B. J. van Howe and W. J. J. Nuyen at the Academy in The Hague. He worked in The Hague and Amsterdam, where he became a member of the academy in 1856.
