Oil/canvas, 47,5 x 61,5 cm, on the reverse flower still life, there sign. lo. ri. F. Domscheit. - Because the artist used the German instead of the Lithuanian form of his name the painting has probably been created before 1938. - German-Lithuanian painter. D. studied 1907-10 at the Königsberg academy under L. Dettmann and L. Corinth. A meeting with E. Munch in Oslo in 1912 influenced him significantly. Because his art was considered degenerate in the "Third Reich," he withdrew to Austria in 1938 and used the Lithuanian form of his name Pranas Domsaitis to sign his paintings. In 1946 he emigrated to South Africa. D.'s clear compositions live on strong colors and large expanses. Mus.: Berlin, Kaliningrad, Szczecin, Lubeck. Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer.
