He was supposedly educated in the Netherlands at the instance of the count of Oldenburg. His use of colours suggest the influence of Dirck Hals or Palamedes Palamedesz. He worked in Bremen in 1636, in 1645 he painted the Pope in Rome, in 1647 painted portraits at the Danish court where he became painter to the court in 1654. Mus.: London (Nat.
