Paris, around 186070. Model by Louis-Constantin Sévin (1821-1888). Bronze, gilded, polychrome cloisonné ornaments, partly marked. Floral ornamented dial, white enamel cushions, black rom. numerals, central hands. Round penulum movement, thread suspension, fine regulation above '12'. Bowl marked 'Barbedienne'. Sévin worked for Barbedienne in the years 1855-88. H. with bowl 31 cm, b. 31 cm, d. 17 cm. H. of candle holders 45 cm (chains added). - Provenance: Private Collection Hamburg. - Maison Barbedienne was founded in 1834 by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) and was one of the most important companies of art bronzes in the 19th cent. in France, the most eminent sculptors of 19th cent. in its day were under contract there.
