Oil/cardboard, 50 x 60 cm, lo. le. sign. and dat. H. Zügel 1907, on the reverse sketch of cows on a meadow. - Animal painter, one of the important German exponents of impressionism. Z. studied at the Stuttgart art school under B. von Neher and H. von Rustige. He settled in Munich where he became professsor in 1889 and co-founder of the local secession in 1892.
