Sterl a. C. Bantzer. In 1932 he became himself professor at the Dresden academy but was dismissed by the Nazis in 1939. Most of his early work was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in 1945. Inspired both by French impressionism a. the Neue Sachlichkeit R. developed an austere style; his graphics on the destruction of Dresden are among the best achievements of the genre.
