Munich, around 1840-60. Veneered nutwood, brass, pewter and ivory, ornamentally inlaid in boulle-technique, inside lined with velvet. Cambered rectangular shape with hinged lid. Key. Partly in need of restoration. H. 9 cm, w. 22 cm, d. 14 cm. - A German ebenist and entrepreneur of the early Historicism. F.s' workshop became a leader in the first half of the 19th cent and delivered his works to Russia, France and England. His speciality was a variant of the 'boulle-technique' developed in France in the 18th cent. For that masterful technical expertise he received many awards.
