Meissen, around 1755. Baluster-shaped vase with rich sculptural relief. At the side 2 disguised putti with perfume bottle respectively a letter and a rose blossom. Crossed swords mark. Prof. rest. H. 29 cm. - The series of 28 disguised putti have been created around 1750 in the circle of Kaendler and purchased 1752 by Madame Pompadour. - Literature: Rückert II, ill. 756, pl. 177. - German porcelain modeller and sculptor, taught by the sculptor Thomae in Dresden, whose baroque influence is especially visible in his animal figures, in 1731 appointed court sculptor by August the Strong, at the same time beginning his work for porcelain manufacture Meissen, which he directs for many years, his works are among the highlights of early European porcelain.
