He exhibited at the Paris salon since 1830 but also published on art matters. In 1848 he became head of the Louvre collections, in 1863 he became head of the academy a. the museum of Marseille. J., who participated in the revolution of 1830, painted realist a. socially critical subjects, but also landscape a. history paintings.
