China, Jiaqing-period (1796 - 1820). Carved ivory. On a oval base a slim-shaped vase, its foot with lancet-relief.The body on both sides, in cambered medaillons, very finely carved with two figural scenes in landscape, one of them shows Chinese people regarding a scroll painting, inbetween rich flower tendrils. The neck with sculptural dear-shaped handles. The lid with a sitting budai-finial. H. 29 cm. - Provenance: Former collection of the swedish opera singer Kristina Nilsson (1843 - 1921).
