Copenhagen, 1928. Design 1912 by Georg Jensen for Georg Jensen, model no. 19B. Sterlingsilver, stamped '925S', Copenhagen city mark from 1928, assay mark 'CFH' for Christian F. Heise (assay master 1904-32), executing mark: 'Georg Jensen' (1925-1932), model no '19B' as well as stamped with London import mark from 1928. Hemispherical body with hammered surface on openworked base with stylized leaves and pearls. (Comp. Taylor/Laskey, Georg Jensen, Holloware, the Silver Fund Collection, 2003, p. 59, Nr. 5 and p. 375). H. 20 cm, diam. 24 cm, weight c. 1035 g. - Original price today by manufacture list c. 11.600,- Euro (2015). - These is the middle size Louvre bowl model no. 19B. It's called 'Louvre Bowl' because the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Musée du Louvre in Paris purchased one bowl as a permanent piece for their collection in 1914. The bowl is designed in the characteristic Art Nouveau style by Georg Jensen: ornamental curved lines, organic structures and decorative ornaments of flora and fauna are designed in contrast to the hammered bowl sureface. Lit.: Bröhan-Museum, Metallkunst der Moderne, Bestandskatalog VI, 2001, Nr. 37. - Danish silversmith, 1895-1901 Studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen, then worked in the studio of the Danish court jeweler Michelsen. In 1904 opening of his own studio in Copenhagen where Jensen first produced works in the Art Nouveau style. Soon after he founded the company Georg Jensen, which is famous for their designs in the functional style of the Danish industrial designs.
