Oil/wood, 35 x 26,5 cm, lo. ri. sign. a. dat. Hjalmar Johnssen 1908, on the reverse inscribed 'Fra Stenkjar'. - Norwegian marine a. landscape painter. J. worked as a sailor for some years before working in a ship's agent office, an occupation that allowed him to attend to drawing lessons in the evening. Since ca. 1882 he worked as a free-lance artist, but he continued to take lessons, among others in the studio of F. Thaulow. Since 1884 he exhibited regularly in Oslo a.
