China, probably southern Song-dynasty (1127-1279). Ceramic with translucent greenish glaze softly flowing out at the foot. Slender, softly bellied shape with ripped neck and strengthened lip. The neck revolving decorated with vivid figures and a dragon among clouds. On a wooden stand. H. of the jar 42,5 cm. - Jars of this form were placed in pairs in tombs and contained offerings to the dead. The jar is replete with ancient traditional Chinese symbolism.
