Oil/canvas, 40,5 x 82,5 cm, lo. le. sign. F. R. Unterberger, on the reverse inscribed 'Molo di Napoli Italia' as well as sign. again. - Austrian-Belgian landscape painter. U. studied first at the Munich academy under C. von Zimmermann a. J. Lange, thereafter in Weimar. After living shortly in Milan he travelled Norway on suggestion of the brothers Achenbach. Later he also travelled Scotland a. England, but Italy with subjects from Venice, the Adriatic sea a. Naples became most important form him. He took part in all major European exhibitions; he was awarded among others the Austrian Ritterkreuz a. the Franz-Josephs-Orden. - Mus.: Innsbruck, Melbourne, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Troyes. - Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
