Oil/canvas, 94 x 138 cm, slightly rest., relined. - Landscape a. animal painter, started his training as pupil of A. Lucas in Darmstadt, studied at the Städel art school in Frankfurt under J. Becker 1844-48 a. under J. Dyckmans in Antwerp, in 1846/47 he accompanied prince Luitpold of Bavaria on his trip to the Orient, 1849-61 he lived in Philadelphia, back in Darmstadt he became painter to the court, was awarded a gold medal at the London crystal palace exhibition in 1865, after meeting J.F. Millet a. Ch.
