Russia, end 18th cent. Softwood with engraved and partly coloured walrus scrimshaw. Kholmogory in the province Arkhangelsk was famous for its scrimshaw during the 17th and 18th cent. End of 17th cent some carver of K. worked in Moskau, in 1711 the factories were dislocate to St. Petersburg, where traditional art and stile of Baroque and Rococo mixed up. At the end of 18th cent various of these artfacts have been sold to countries far away. (Comp. Halst, E., Modernes Scrimshaw, S.16f). H. 40 cm, B. 26 cm, T. 10,5 cm.
