MÊNE. - French sculptor, Mène was besides Barye one of the most significant French sculptors of the 19th cent. and exhibited regularly since 1838 in the Parisian Salon. His animal representations were already during the lifetime highly traded. The dog belongs to his major motives. Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Bénézit.
