Oil/canvas. 62 x 50 cm. Some dam., relined. - Provenance: Estate Countess Finck von Finckenstein-Brinkama - Italian flower painter. N.'s interest in flowers was instilled in him by his father's horticultural business. He trained as a painter in the studio of his uncle T. Salini. He soon won botanically interested patrons such as the later Pope Clement IX and Giancarlo de' Medici. As a leading flower painter of his time, he also collaborated with other artists such as Carlo Maratta. In 1657 he was accepted as a member of the Accademia di San Luca.
