1971. Collotype, 35 x 40 cm, lo. ri. autographed and dat. Becher 71, unframed. - Bernd and Hilla Becher are among the most important photographers of the present day. Both had artistic and photographic experience before they began studying at the Düsseldorf Academy, where they also met; they married in 1961. In 1976 Bernd Becher took on a professorship in Düsseldorf, where he worked closely with his wife. The work of the two developed into the 'Düsseldorf School', from which such important photographers as Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Candida Höfer and Tata Ronkholz emerged. Architecture, especially industrial buildings, dominates their oeuvre, which has been shown at the most important exhibitions, including several times at Documenta.
