Schotel, on the revers inv. stamp of Phoenix Gummiwerke, min. retouchings. - Provenance: Galerie Commeter, Hamburg; Phoenix rubber company, Hamburg; private collection Hamburg. - Dutch marine painter. S. received his painterly training from his father, J. C. Schotel, who was active in the same field. He taught at the Royal Marine Institute in Medemblik from 1830-48. After a period in Düsseldorf, he settled in Dresden in 1860. Since 1833 he was member of the Amsterdam academy. Mus.: Amsterdam (Rijksmus.), Antwerp, The Hague, Brunswick a. others.
