E. studied 1902-04 at the Copenhagen Academy and moved to Paris in 1912 with her partner Gerda Wegener and exhibited there in 1922 at the Salon. Born in a male body, she underwent gender reassignment surgery in 1930 in Dresden, the consequences of which she died of in 1931. Mus.: Vejle, Kolding. Lit.: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Bénézit.
