China, middle of 16th cent. (Ming-dynasty 1368-1644). Bronze with dark-brown patina. A bellied hexagonal vessel on three massive legs. The domed cover with a large figurine of the mythical creature Qilin (unicorn repaired). At the wall 3 revolving borders (stylised waves, foliage with lotus and peonies and archaic creatures on a leiwen-underground). The legs in the shape of Qilin-heads. Square-cut opening in the bottom. The cover damaged. H. 57 cm. - The result of thermoluminescence test from 1986 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
