Auktionshaus Stahl holds five large auctions of art every year.

Our auctions cover the entire spectrum of art and antiques across a wide variety of periods and cultures from the Middle Ages to the present day.

We auction paintings and graphic art, contemporary art, Old and New Masters, European arts and crafts, furniture, design, jewellery, clocks and Asian art.

The following lists additional information for you as a buyer together with notes on the auctions, whereby the general terms and the auction conditions that you can find under General Terms and Conditions are applicable for participation in the auction.

Information about participation in an auction:

Floor bidder: you participate in the art auction in person and bid on site in the room. The registration also takes place on site, where you will be given your bidder number.

Written bidder: you submit a written bid and state the maximum you would like to bid on a lot. The auctioneer bids for you in your interest, i.e. the award is made at the lowest possible price. You can enter your bid directly next to the relevant lot in our online catalogues.
Bid forms in the print catalogue can be sent to us by post, fax or e-mail (by scanning the form).

Please note the bid deadline of 24 hours before the beginning of the auction (48 hours for new customers).

Telephone bidder: we will call you during the auction for the lots for which you would like to bid. Please send us your telephone bid directly next to the relevant lot in our online catalogue. Telephone bidding is possible for objects with a catalogue price of at least 500 Euros. When you make a telephone bid you automatically bid the catalogue price for the relevant lot. This is the absolute precondition for telephone bidding. We will then call you on the day of auction just before the object that you wish to bid on is called. You can always submit a written security offer. We will try to call you in time before the relevant object is called but we cannot guarantee that the telephone connection will succeed.

Live bidder on the Internet: you can register for live bidding and participate in the auction live via the Internet. There is the possibility bid live via the website of the Auktionshaus Stahl. Please note that an additional fee of 3% of the total sum will be charged for live bidding. Please contact us for further information.
Please register on our website as a new customer. After registration you can send bids through the relevant items in the catalogue and the attached bidding form, send these information via mail to us. We will then return a confirmation and also a request to transmit further security data like for example a copy of a photographic ID (identity card, passport). New customers who participate as floor bidders are asked to legitimate themselves with their identity card when their bidder number is issued and to deposit their credit card number or cash deposit as security. The purchase order will only be executed if sufficient security is provided.

The online catalogue appears approximately three weeks before the auction and includes all the objects to be auctioned.
You can view the pieces of art to be auctioned at our premises during a preliminary inspection. The opening times for the preliminary inspect can be found here.
You are welcome to request condition reports or digital images of individual objects, which will be sent to your e-mail address. Please contact the relevant department /contact by e-mail in this regard.
The lots are called at the minimum price given in the catalogue. The auctioneer calls the lots in order and takes bids from the floor bidders, the telephone bidders and the bidders on the Internet. Bids generally increase by 10%. The bidder with the highest bid for the lot is successful. The results are published on the Internet after the auction.
Unsold lots are available for subsequent sale. The subsequent sale is published after the auction. You can contact us for subsequent sale by telephone and for other information from the 1st working day after the auction (Contact).
We will send you the auction invoice after the auction by post, or also in advance by e-mail. Please pay the invoice within ten days so that we can pay the vendor of the auction on time. You can pay the invoice by bank transfer, by credit card or in cash. Please note that a fee will be charged for payment by credit card. This will vary depending on the card issuer.

You can collect the auctioned works of art in person during our office hours:

Monday - Friday: 10 am to 5 pm

Please notify us of your collection time so that we can make preparations.
If the purchase cannot be collected in person then we would be pleased to make suggestions on types of transportation that you can commission. The shipping method depends on the works of art and on your preferences, particularly regarding insurance. Shipping of your purchased works of art is generally possible by art shipping company, haulier, courier service or one of the well known logistics companies. If you have already expressed your desire to commission shipping in advance then you will find a suggestion for a suitable shipping method on your auction invoice.

For larger pictures, sculptures and graphic art that is framed under glass we recommend transportation by a haulier. We would be happy to help in the selection of a competence shipping company or a reasonably priced consolidated shipment. The transportation costs will be invoiced immediately before shipping.

The shipping order is either given by you directly or in your name. You are responsible for the costs and risks of the shipping.

Customs clearance for a third country will be carried out by a haulier or shipping company. In the case of collection in person the buyer is responsible for customs clearance when leaving the EU.

Objects that are not collected by three weeks after the invoice date at the latest and for which no shipping order exists will be stored at the buyer’s expense.
