Daniel Chodowiecki (Danzig 1726 - Berlin 1801, attr.) - Artist
German graphic artist, draughtsman and painter, an important chronicler of the Frederician age. He designed costume jewelry in a store owned by his uncle and learned enamel painting before becoming successful with a graphic workshop. His illustrations enriched numerous works of fiction and science. From 1797 he was director of the Academy of Arts. Lit.: Thieme-Becker.
