Flemish landscape painter from a family of artists. After being taught painting in the studio of A. Gobau he followed his brother Pieter to Italy in 1684 and joined the Dutch artist's community of the 'Bentveughels'. B. received many commissions for the decoration of palazzi of the nobility in Rome, but also sold to foreign countries. Mus.: Florence (Pal. Pitti), Madrid (Prado), Vienna (Kunsthist.
