Oil/canvas, 102 x 71 cm, some rest., relined. - Florentine still life and animal painter. B. was taught in the studios of L. Lippi and O. Marinari, during a short sojourn in Rome around 1668 he probably also worked in the studio of Mario Nuzi, called Mario de' Fiori. The Medici were his most important patrons since 1685. The trueness to life and the precision of B.s painting were due to the scientific interests of archduke Cosimo III, who wanted the aspects of exotic fruits, plants and animals to be preserved in pictures.
