Schreyer August 1899'. - German animal, landscape a. orient painter, one of the pioneers of realism a. impressionism in Germany. S. studied at the Städel in Frankfurt under J. Becker a. J. D. Passavant until 1854, interrupted by short sojourns in Düsseldorf a. Stuttgart. In 1856 he volunteered fot the Crimean War. He accompanied the Fürst of Thurn and Taxis to his Hungarian campaign. S. travelled extensively through Europe, North Africa a. the Middle East. His paintings were repeatedly awarded in Paris a. Munich. S. was member of the Kronberg artist's colony.
