I, Berlin-Budapest 1956, p. 382.- According to the Acts of the Apostles the court official of the Ethiopian queen was on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. On his way home he met the apostle Philip who conversed and baptised him. - Dutch landscape a. figure painter from a family of artists. V. lived in Haarlem in 1610, but moved to The Hague in 1618. His teachers were possibly his father Hans as well as G. van Coninxloo. V. is a pioneer in establishing landscape painting as a genre of its own, but also had high abilities in painting figures which captivate by realism, colour a. vividness.
