Oil/canvas, 166 x 100 cm, on the stretcher on label inscribed 'Miss Fursman of Gloucester', min. rest., relined. - The sitter was from a well-to-do landed gentry family. Her father, Rev. John Fursmann, was chancellor of the Exeter cathedral. The family of Martha Fursmans mother, Radcliffe, was portrayed by Thomas Hudson, so that some experts took into consideration an attribution of the painting at hand to that artist.
