Beuys at the Düsseldorf academy under E. Mataré whose assistent he was at Kokoschkas summer academy in 1957, in 1968 he exhibited at the Documenta for the first time, in 1969 he was made professor at the Düsseldorf academy, among his numerous awards are the Will Grohmann a. the Max Beckmann prizes, he designed the architecture a. sculptures for the museum Insel Hombroich, his mathematically constructed sculptures made of cardboard make him count among the important contemporary sculptors.
