Pisarro a. Th.v. Rijsselberghe a. grew to be the most important exponent of neoimpressionism in Germany, after apprenticeship as porcellain painter in Meißen he studied at the Dresden academy under Fr. Preller a. in Weimar under Th. Hagen, temporarily in the Dachau artist"s colony, travelled all over Europe, became member of the Dresden, Munich a. Berlin secession, lived in the Netherlands for a longer time, thereafter in S. Gimignano, professorship in Dresden a. Kassel, Villa Romana award. - Mus.: Berlin (Nat.-Gal.), Dresden (Gemäldegalerie Neue Meister), München (Lenbachhaus), Leizig, Marburg u.a. - Lit.: Boetticher, Thieme-Becker, Bénézit. - Influenced by French impressionists, during his sojourn in Sint Anna ter Muiden in the Netherlands since 1890, Baum began to evolve his own pictorial language beyond academic traditions. The painting at hand, easily drawn in bright colours is a typical example from the beginning of the period.
