Oil/canvas, 42 x 61 cm, min. rest., relined. - Expert report: Dr. Claudia Nordhoff, Rome, 28.11.2008. - The present painting, dated to ca. 1817 by Dr. Nordhoff, is one of the chief works of Faber. From an elevated point of view on the road leading from Bolsena to Orvieto the artist depicts the Umbrian town on a vast rock plateau, silhouetting against Monte Veglia. The artists skill masters the most subtle details of the resting travellers a. their animals in the foreground as well as the atmospheric phenomenon of clouds accumulating in the far distance.
