P. was taught painting in the studio of his father, in 1591 he became member of the St. Luke's guild in Antwerp. Around 1600 he was painter to the court in Mantova. After working in Innsbruck, Naples and Torino he became painter to the court in Paris, where he initially worked for Maria de' Medici, thereafter for the kings Henri IV and Louis XIII.
